The year 2009 in review

During the year, when we got a chance we visited the local museums and zoo in Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Some of the places of interest were:

  • Renaissance fair in Waxachie, Texas. The fair runs for about four weeks in the spring. Most people come in costume. There is lots of food, entertainment and fun. We really enjoyed the music and the jousting.

            • Heritage Village in historic Old City Park in Dallas has collections of historic buildings and furnishings, representing the period 1840-1910. We learned a lot about the life style during this period in the Dallas area.

In June we made a trip to Tulsa. We saw the outdoor stage presentation of Oklahoma. We went to Oklahoma Aquarium and to a Drillers baseball game (AA). We went to the Philbrook Musuem which is housed in one the homes of the Phillips brothers of the Phillips 66 Oil company. The Philbrook house and gardens was just beautiful. Philbrook also houses a first class art museum.

In July we visited our grandchildren, Andrew and Seth, in Michigan. While Grandma Rebecca was helping Amanda with new born Seth, 'pa Rick got to take Andrew to the local carnival, feed the goats at Domino farms, play in the local parks and eat lots of mulberries from the trees. We all went and picked blueberries.

In August we went on our own private vacation to Disney World. We spent a day in each one of the major parks at the Disney resort. Rick was cast in a play of Romeo and 'Edna' at EPCOT. Rebecca did a guest performance of playing the cow bell for the local band in cover version of the Rolling Stone's Honky Tonk Woman. We stayed at the resort and paid for the dinner plan. We ate great and had a very enjoyable time.

In September we went with Michael and Meghan to the Brigham Young University versus Oklahoma University football game in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Michael had told us earlier about the game. So we put our money in the first day possible at BYU to get tickets. It was impossible for Michael to get tickets from OU. We were estatic to find that we had 11th row tickets (11th row from the grass). The seats were fantastic. It was a great game. Both Michael and Meghan graduated from OU. So they were pleased with the game except for the last minute.

Christmas was spent at home with Sarah, Michael and Meghan.

It is fun to be able to check on your family once in a while. It would be fun to do another Silver Dollar City get together. We sure miss Arkansas winters--and getting together with you once in a while.
